Crab Farms Raising Hope for Fisherfolks In Sindh

Crab farming is emerging as a promising opportunity in the coastal and riverine areas of Sindh, where crabs naturally thrive. By adopting modern farming techniques, this sector can create new employment opportunities and contribute positively to the local economy. With clean water, quality feed, a protected environment, and scientific management, crabs grow faster and bring high market value. For these reasons, crab farming is increasingly seen as a source of hope in Sindh—offering a brighter future for young people, fishermen, and local communities.

With the gift of a cow from Islamic Relief Pakistan, this mother has found a new path to dignity. By selling milk, she now supports her children with pride and their smiles reflect a future filled with hope.

Area Program Manager Sindh Islamic Relief Pakistan-Mehboob Ali

Islamic Relief has been playing an active role in helping communities in Pakistan to tackle Climate change through proper steps taken over the years that has helped families living in coastal areas of Sindh cope to new ways by providing livelihood opportunities, agriculture trainings, climate sensitive farming techniques and cash grants. Islamic Relief will keep on providing necessary support to all those who are facing these severe effects of climate change.

Exposure Visit-3rd International Food and Agriculture Exhibition (FoodAg-25)

This exposure visit was organized under the project supported by the Royal Norwegian Embassy, which aims to strengthen climate-resilient livelihoods, value addition, and market access for smallholder farming communities in District Thatta.

Introduced participants to modern systems of value addition, branding, and food processing.

The visit aims to empowers farmers by connecting them with private companies for market opportunities, enhancing their knowledge of food safety, packaging, and climate-smart agriculture. It also encourages entrepreneurial skills, helping farmers adopt innovative practices and increase profitability.

Visit to Major Exhibition Booths

Major exhibition booths are offers to farmers and stakeholders the chance to explore the latest agricultural technologies, products, and innovations, fostering learning, networking, and business opportunities.

Key Learnings for Farmers and Entrepreneurs

Farmers and entrepreneurs learned that value addition and attractive branding boost profits, while food safety is essential for market success. Collaborating with the private sector, growing climate-resilient crops, and empowering women in small-scale processing can further enhance income and opportunities.

Training Session On PSEA & SAFEGUARDING Policy

A one-day training session on PSEA & Safeguarding was held at the IRP Area Office Karachi, focusing on protecting the rights, safety, and dignity of all community members. Participants learned about preventing exploitation, reporting mechanisms, and creating a safe, respectful working environment.

Follow-Up Field Visit to Okra and Mustard Seed Beneficiary Farmers

The Agriculture team of Islamic Relief Pakistan conducted a follow-up visit to farmers who received okra and mustard seeds. The team inspected the crop plots, assessed growth and farming practices, and held meetings with the farmers to discuss progress, challenges, and further guidance for improved results.

Farmer Awareness Session on the Use of Hermetic Bags

A training session was conducted to educate farmers on the proper use of hermetic bags for safe grain storage. Farmers learned how these air-tight bags help protect harvests from insects, moisture, and spoilage, ensuring better quality produce and reduced post-harvest losses.

Meeting with Village Organization Members

A meeting was held with Village Organization members to discuss community needs, ongoing activities, and upcoming initiatives. The session focused on strengthening coordination, addressing challenges, and ensuring active participation for improved community development.

IRP-APM Sindh Visit-CAAFSS Information Hub

IRP-APM Sindh, visited the Information Hub located at the Agriculture Extension Office in Makli, where observed the ongoing work and held a productive discussion with the team present at the hub.

Farmer Receiving Guidance Through CAAFSS Information Hub

The farmer contacted the CAAFSS Information Hub call center to seek timely agricultural support. Through this service, experienced agriculture experts provide him with practical advice on crop management, pest control, and best farming practices. The initiative helps farmers make informed decisions, improve productivity, and access reliable guidance right from their fields.

IRP-APM Sindh and Projector Coordinator Visit to Project Site

During the visit, the IRP APM Sindh and Projector Coordinator CAAFSS observed crop progress and irrigation constructions and practices. Reviewed the project activities to ensure effective implementation and improved agricultural outcomes for the community.

Briefing on CAAFSS Information Hub and Mobile Application

Farmers were briefed on how to use the CAAFSS Information Hub website and mobile application for accessing reliable agricultural guidance. The session highlighted how these digital tools can help farmers receive expert advice, weather updates, crop management tips, and timely solutions, enabling them to improve productivity and make informed farming decisions.

Mobilization Team Educates Farmers on CAAFSS Website and Application

The Mobilization Team organized an awareness session for farmers, introducing them to the CAAFSS Website and Application. They were informed to get support and agriculture expert advisory through the this platform. During the session, farmers were guided on how to navigate the CAAFSS website and mobile application, enabling them to access resources and assistance more effectively.

Information Hub Inauguration

The Deputy Commissioner Thatta, Mr. Munwar Abbas Soomro, Additional Director Agriculture Extension Thatta M.Saleem Jokhio and Area Program Manager Sindh IRP, inaugurated the CAAFFS Information Hub in Thatta. The initiative aims to support farmers by providing timely agricultural information and technical assistance through digital platforms.

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Thatta visited the CAAFSS Information Hub and the Agriculture Extension Office in Thatta to review ongoing initiatives, promote agricultural development, and facilitate farmer support programs. The visit highlighted efforts in modern farming techniques, information dissemination, and community engagement for enhanced agricultural productivity.

National Oil Seed Enhancement Program-2026

The Agriculture Extension department government of Sindh announced the national oil seed enhancement program-2026, Implemented jointly with Federal Government. A seminar in sujawal highlighted the details, attended by DG Agriculture Sindh Allah Warayo Rind, Technical Director Khuda Bux Kalwar, Oil Seed Research Director Dr Abrar Sheikh , Additional Director Thatta and Sujawal Muhammad Saleem Jokhio and Deputy Director Sujawal Waqas Ahmed, officials informed to farmers, that seed purchase will be subsidized with 5000 PKR per acre provided.
